Fist let me explain how our house is set up. We rent a modest one level home. It has 4 bedrooms and a bonus room. Three of the bedrooms are in a straight line from the front of the house to the back of the house, all right off the main living area. The front bedroom's door is right in the living room. The two in the back have a small hallway with a bathroom in between them, and they are off the dining/kitchen area. Does that make sense? I hope so. Anyway, both of the boys rooms are the two in the back. Riley's being the furthest back and Aiden's is in the middle. Our front bedroom is a guest room and my scrap book room - not that I ever use it any more.
During the day I am constantly telling Riley he has to be quiet (he is VERY loud naturally) while Aiden naps and it's really hard. Or we'll play in his room with the door closed. Riley doesn't love playing in his room by himself and I think it's because it's so separated from the rest of the house. I have given serious thought to making the guest room also a play room, but I'm not convinced that would work right now. So here's what I decided. We are going to move Riley to the front bedroom and Aiden into Riley's room.
With this change here are some benefits for Riley's new room: it will right off the living room so he can play in there and still feel like he's close to us; there is a twin bed in there that we are going to transition him from his toddler bed; there is a bench built in under the window so I can take the coffee table he play on out of his room so he has more floor space (which also means more toys in his room and not in the living room and therefore eliminate the need for a play room).
Benefits for Aiden moving to Riley's room: In the very back of the house and so much more quiet; we are going to keep Riley's furniture in there - the changing table has sides on it and is so much safer than Aiden's current one; it's a little bigger than his current room.
I know it technically removes our guest room, but we will still have the bed so we can just let Riley sleep on the floor in our room or something when we have guests. I'm so excited about this change! I love rearranging my house, it makes it feel fresh and organized!
And in writing this I just realized that leaves the middle room empty. So I guess that means I can put my scrap book stuff in there and have a scrap book room/office! We have an old couch that is in our bonus room right now. I may even move that in there and make a reading area too, who knows!
